Special Forest Products are forest resources not associated with timber sale contracts but are used for personal, commercial, and scientific purposes. Examples: cones, mushrooms, firewood, Christmas trees, wildflowers, nuts and berries.

To ensure a lasting supply, the US Forest and Bureau of Land Management are working together to create uniform harvesting regulations.

	To do your part:

•	Use products in a caring and ecologically sound way.
•	Follow the standards and guidelines available at local agency offices.
•	Remember, harvesting rare, threatened, or endangered plants is ILLEGAL.

GENERAL HARVESTING REGULATIONS

Agencies may restrict harvest by:
•	Quantity
•	Specific Methods
•	Specific Locations
•	Season of Use

Permits:
•	Usually required for personal and commercial uses
•	Most personal and all commercial permits require a fee
•	Prices vary
•	Failure to have a permit may result in a fine
