The Glacier View Wilderness, like Tatoosh Wilderness, was added to Wilderness system by Congress in 1984 to protect and to compliment the adjacent Mt. Rainier National Park. Then in 1988 approximately 98 percent of the Mt. Rainier National Park was designated Wilderness by Congress. The Glacier View Wilderness is 3,080 acres in size and located northeast of the town of Ashford.

As the name implies, the Glacier View Wilderness provides some spectacular views of the glaciated slopes of Mt. Rainier which lie to the east. The most popular view points are from Mt. Beljica (5,476 feet) and Glacier View Point (5,507 feet). Glacier View Point is the former site of a fire lookout built in 1934.

Glacier View and Mt. Rainier Wilderness areas adjoin and are administered by two different agencies. Sometimes regulations are different and you are encouraged to contact the agency which administers the Wilderness you plan to visit.
