The Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness is 33,000-acres in size and was created by the 1984 Oregon Wilderness Act. It, like Mt. Thielsen Wilderness, lies within the Oregon Cascade Recreation Area, also created by Congress in 1984. It is located west of Highway 230 and southwest of Diamond Lake.

High forested mountains and ridges separating the Rogue and Umpqua River drainages characterize this Wilderness. Elevations range from 3,200 feet to 6,800 feet. Abundant flora and fauna as well as geological outcroppings can be found throughout this wilderness. Devils Slide and Hole-in-the-Ground are the most interesting of the geological features.
